Supermarket Aldi will increase starting pay rates for its employees from 1 April.
Entry-level pay for more than 28,000 hourly-paid store assistants will rise to £13.50 per hour nationally and £14.88 for those based inside the M25. These rates will increase to £14.47 and £15.20 respectively based on length of service.
This is the second pay rise Aldi has awarded its staff this year. In January, it announced that from 1 March, store assistants’ starting salary would rise to £13.35 per hour nationally and £14.71 inside the M25. This would increase with service to £14.30 per hour and £15.03 respectively.
It also announced that it would increase pay for store apprentices to £12.02 per hour outside the M25, and to £13.22 per hour inside the M25, while additionally extending maternity pay to 26 weeks at full pay.
The two pay rises announced this year represent a £42 million investment in staff pay in 2026.
Giles Hurley, chief executive officer of Aldi UK and Ireland, said: “Our employees work incredibly hard to deliver exceptional value for our customers, and we’re rewarding that dedication with the highest pay in the sector. We’ve invested more than £42 million in staff pay this year because we know that every single member of Aldi is fundamental to our success and deserve nothing less.”
Aldi employs more than 45,000 employees across the UK. It offers its staff paid breaks, which is worth approximately £1,500 per year to the average store employee.
It also provides 28 days’ annual leave, a health cash plan, discounted gym membership, discounted cinema tickets and holidays, sick pay, long-service awards, maternity, paternity and adoption leave, an online wellness portal, an employee assistance programme, and learning and development opportunities.
