Supermarket chain Aldi Ireland is to give its more than 4,000 employees a pay rise and enhance neonatal, maternity and paternity leave.
From 1 February, it will increase the minimum hourly rate for staff at stores and warehouses across Ireland to €15.10 (£12.66) per hour. Employees will also receive additional increments after one, two and three years of service.
According to the retailer, the increase exceeds the rate of inflation, which has risen by just under 20% in the same period. This means its pay rates have risen by 23% in the last four years.
As part of its annual pay and benefits review, Aldi Ireland has also enhanced its employee benefits and wellbeing support package by increasing its neonatal leave to up to 12 weeks, in order to further support its staff with new families. it will also improve its maternity and paternity leave to provide employees with greater flexibility.
