Discount retailer Poundland has introduced mental health and wellbeing support for its 12,000 employees.

Through a partnership with retail industry charity Retail Trust, Poundland’s employees will have access to the trust’s wellbeing helpline and a range of measures designed to support the workforce, including counselling, financial aid and assistance for young people in their care.

The organisation will also able to access the Retail Trust’s happiness dashboard, which is a generative AI-powered platform that has been designed to identify, track and respond to wellbeing trends, identify mental health pressures and evaluate the effectiveness of its support strategies.

Poundland’s managers will receive continuing professional development (CPD) accredited training to support their teams, while staff will also be able to access dedicated resources to help them deal with shop worker abuse at work.

Barry Williams, managing director at Poundland, said: “We’re pleased to have recently briefed our employees on our new partnership with the Retail Trust to support their mental health and wellbeing. Our employees do an amazing job, but we know working in retail, especially on the shop floor, can, at times, be challenging. We’re committed to doing all we can to support them and we look forward to the resources the Retail Trust will bring.”

Poundland also offers its employees an annual retail management bonus scheme, a holiday allowance increasing by one day per year up to 33 days, plus an extra day for birthdays, enhanced family-friendly benefits, life assurance, 10% in-store discount, discounts through its staff online benefits portal, access to employee assistance to support wellbeing, and recognition initiatives.
