Central Co-op financial support

From Central Co-op

Central Co-op has launched a three-month trial to provide enhanced mental health and wellbeing support for its funeral employees in emotionally demanding roles.

Through a digital mental health platform designed by psychotherapists and provided by Grounded Therapy, Central Co-op’s employees can access one-to-one counselling which they can book without a manager’s referral, 24/7 tools and guidance for maintaining good mental health, and workshops on loss and bereavement, sleep hygiene, managing compassion fatigue, and how leaders can foster and sustain a positive workplace culture.

Employees can access the platform via an app or website and all interactions are confidential, with no identifiable data shared with Central Co-op, to ensure they feel safe and secure in seeking support.

The partnership was developed with input from funeral employees and Central Co-op’s wellbeing champions to ensure support directly addresses the sensitive and challenging situations faced by funeral staff. The aim is to integrate personalised counselling with actionable strategies to enhance mental wellbeing across the organisation.

Additionally, as part of a recognition of the importance of prioritising these workers’ mental health, Central Co-op has committed to providing quick and easy access to effective wellbeing resources and create a supportive and inclusive workplace.

Central Co-op will monitor the trial to evaluate the impact of Grounded Therapy’s services and ensure it meets the needs of employees. Its overall goal is to implement long-term services to support its funeral staff with their wellbeing.

Naomi Smith, inclusion and wellbeing manager at Central Co-op, said: “Our funeral colleagues face unique challenges in their roles, and we are committed to ensuring they have access to the best mental health support available. Grounded Therapy provides a seamless and innovative approach to wellbeing, offering both flexibility and expert guidance. We’re excited to trial this partnership and continue making a difference to our employees’ lives.”
