Several members of staff employed by 0800 Repair and Oakes Energy Services have qualified as mental health first aiders in order to offer mental health support to other employees.

The eight employees undertook the Highfield Level 2 Award in Introduction to First Aid for Mental Health (RQF) training course and are now certified mental health first aiders, able to provide direct support, promote awareness and encourage staff to seek help without fear of judgment.

They will serve as dedicated points of contact within the workforce and offer support and guidance to other employees who may be struggling with their mental health. Their role will also require them to recognise early signs of distress, be there to listen to staff, and direct individuals toward professional support when needed.

The aim of the initiative is to break down mental health stigmas in the workplace and foster a more open and supportive environment. It is also part of the employer’s commitment to employee wellbeing.

Carla Armstrong, HR manager at 0800 Repair and Oakes Energy Services, said: “Having trained mental health first aiders within our business is a crucial step in ensuring that our employees’ mental wellbeing is taken as seriously as their physical health. We want to create a workplace where people feel safe discussing their mental health and know they have support available when they need it.”

0800 Repair and Oakes Energy Services also offers its employees 22 days’ annual leave a year plus bank holidays, a pension scheme, and a competitive salary with additional earning opportunities that could add up to £10,000 to its basic rate.
