Lucy Tigwell-Cox, reward manager at National Air Traffic Services (NATS), will present a session on workplace menopause support on the first day of Employee Benefits Live 2025.
Her presentation Leading the way in menopause support: How NATS transformed policy, culture and industry standards, will take place on Wednesday 1 October at 2.20pm in Theatre Four as part of the reproductive health stream.
It will focus on the environment NATS air traffic controllers work in, the challenges they experienced around menopause, how it impacts employees, and the barriers it created in the organisation’s equity, diversity and inclusion aspirations. Tigwell-Cox will also discuss he restrictions around licensing requirements and the culture that stopped people talking about the menopause, and caused people to suffer in silence.
Throughout the session, she will cover what measures the organisation implemented, which included working with stakeholders across the business to create a policy and toolkit to support employees, managers and employees.
“I will talk about our menopause plan with Bupa, which provides quick access to specially trained GP for both employees and partners. I will also talk about our comprehensive communications strategy, how we were able to influence the industry and the channels and groups we have initiated, and continue to provide peer support to our employees,” she said.
Tigwell-Cox hopes attendees will come away with quick, practical solutions to make a difference, how to measure the impact, how to build the business case for a menopause plan, and how to make a difference in a stagnant in a male-dominated environment which can be stagnant in terms of progress.
“We have collectively managed to shift the dial, so I want [attendees] to feel hope and confidence that they can make a difference culturally and impact even those outside of their organisation,” she said.
