Banking organisation HSBC Channel Islands and Isle of Man has become a certified fertility-friendly workplace.
The certification was awarded by Tiny Seeds, a Jersey-based fertility support and awareness charity. It is part of its island-wide initiative to recognise and support employers that are creating inclusive, compassionate and informed workplaces for their employees who are experiencing fertility challenges.
HSBC Channel Islands and Isle of Man was recognised due to its pledge to recognise fertility awareness events, help break the taboo around the subject, and its implementation of Tiny Seeds’ fertility-friendly workplace toolkit, which consists of 10 considerations.
These include the introduction of a dedicated fertility policy, five days of paid leave per IVF cycle for up to three cycles per year to those undergoing treatment, a £400 travel grant to support staff who need to travel off-island for fertility care, flexible working, an inclusive culture and safe space for conversations, ensuring confidentiality, training, a dedicated fridge for medicines, a quiet room, and a commitment to regularly review support.
HSBC Channel Islands and Isle of Man has also given the charity £20,000 in support of its charitable work and fertility travel costs for people in the community.
Elvina Aghajanyan, head of people for HSBC Channel Islands and Isle of Man, said: “We are committed to building an inclusive workplace culture where fertility challenges are met with openness, empathy and understanding. This certification demonstrates our ongoing efforts to ensure meaningful support is in place for those who need it, demonstrating what true workplace support can look like.
“Fertility-friendly policies such as these not only support the individuals directly affected, but also help build a more committed, supported, and inclusive team, helping employers retain talent and support overall wellbeing.”
