EXCLUSIVE: DB Schenker holds eyecare awareness week for staff

Argent Tiffany-DB Schenker-2015EXCLUSIVE: Logistics firm DB Schenker hosted an eyecare and road safety awareness week for its UK staff.

The event, which coincided with Road Safety Week on 23-29 November 2015, is in line with the organisation’s commitment to supporting its employees’ health and wellbeing while ensuring it meets its corporate and social responsibilities.

The week aimed to highlight the importance of eyecare and driver vision. Employees received a range of informative handouts and giveaways from Specsavers Corporate Eyecare, who also conducted vision screening at DB Schenker’s London Heathrow headquarters.

The procedure was performed on 32 employees, six of whom did not reach the required standard for driving, according to the test. They have all been advised to visit their optician for a full eye examination.

DB Schenker, in partnership with Goldstar Heathrow, also provided a range of driver awareness activities for staff throughout the week. This included the opportunity to sit in a heavy goods vehicle so that employees could see how many blind spots there are, as well as reverse parking refresher courses and an online highway knowledge quiz.

Tiffany Argent (pictured), quality, health safety and environment (QHSE) manager at DB Schenker, said: “As a logistics firm, we have a significant number of forklift truck drivers, and our sales and office staff use the roads to get to work. Clear vision is vital for all employees, no matter how much time they spend on the road.”
