Barrhead Travel has launcheda dedicated team of menopause champions to support its 500 employees.
The team comprises five volunteer employees that represent departments across the business. It includes staff who have experienced menopause, are currently going through menopause and passionate advocates.
The team’s priorities will focus on education and advice for all employees, whether they are experiencing the menopause themselves or looking to support loved ones. Monthly newsletters and online menopause chat cafes will form the basis of its menopause strategy over the coming year.
Wilma Taylor, HR director at Barrhead Travel, said: “Around 70% of our workforce are likely to personally experience menopause at some point in their lives and virtually everyone will have friends or family who will embark on a menopause journey. Gone are the days where health topics, particularly women’s health, are taboo in the workplace.
“Our employee wellbeing is the foundation of good business, and that means fostering an open and respectful culture that both educates and supports colleagues. Our wellness strategy is predominantly employee-driven and this is a great example of an initiative that has been steered by our people. We’re listening to what our people are asking for and making positive change that promotes collaboration.”
Earlier this year, Barrhead Travel increased its wider staff wellness support by doubling its number of mental health first aiders. It also signed the Wellbeing of Women menopause pledge back in August in order to create a supportive, positive and open culture surrounding the menopause and offer dedicated workplace support. It plans to launch a dedicated menopause hub on the staff intranet, which covers the firm’s policy for the condition and offers curated information for support and advice.
