Sports retailer Adidas (pictured), food manufacturer Nestle, energy management business Schneider Electric and financial organisation Zurich Insurance are among the employers that have been recognised in 2019's Gender Equality Index, compiled by global information and technology firm Bloomberg.
The 2019 index recognises and celebrates 230 international employers across 36 countries for publicly demonstrating a commitment to gender equality and advancing women in the workplace. Organisations on the index employ seven million women globally.
To feature on the index, Bloomberg analyses organisations across four key areas: it looks at internal statistics, such as female representation, equal pay and gender pay gap figures; policies and benefits, for example paid parental leave policies and fertility and family-friendly benefits; external impact, including advertising without gender bias and having gender conscious products and services; and community, which looks at targeted return-to-work programmes, financial and health education for women and gender equality legislation support.
Other organisations that are on the 2019 index include banking organisation Barclays, The Coca-Cola Company, investment bank Goldman Sachs, electricity business Iberdola, consumer goods organisation Unilever and retailer Walmart.
Anil Chaudhry, managing director and zone president at Schneider Electric Greater India and member of the Global Diversity and Inclusion Board, said: “At Schneider Electric, we know that embracing diversity is simply an unfiltered acknowledgement of the truth of this world.
"It goes without saying that creating an empowering environment for individuals from diverse cultures, gender identities, socio-religious preferences and special abilities gets them to bring their authentic selves to work. It’s that common feature which allows them to contribute their finest at work and outside."
