Aviva has made changes to its international private medical insurance, which will come into force from 1 February 2014.

The changes, which aim to provide new and existing members with clearer benefit terms, include an increase in core benefits to an annual limit of £5 million.

The policy has been divided into two areas, rather than six, to make mobility between countries easier.

Aviva has also expanded its provision in the Gulf to cover employees based in Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The changes also include:

  • Cancer care will now cover treatment and palliative care as recommended by specialists.
  • In and day-patient will be enhanced to include cover towards the costs of organ transplants and harvesting.
  • Out-patient care will include cover for up to 10 speech-therapy sessions, following a referral from a specialist.
  • Cover for maternity will now include complications for pregnancy as standard, as well as upgrades for pre and post-natal care.

Employers can also upgrade their core cover to suit individual healthcare needs, including investigations into fertility, dental cover, routine health screening, alternative therapies, and repatriation and compassionate travel.
