Curtins is a professional services firm that provides civil and structural engineering, transport planning and environmental design and consultancy advice. It operates from 14 locations across the UK and Ireland, and employs 440 staff.
The organisation aims to promote a strong culture and values, with a significant focus on caring for staff through a workplace environment that promotes inclusion, wellbeing and personal development.
As part of this overarching strategy, Curtins constantly reviews and updates the financial wellbeing benefits offered to staff leading to a total reward offering that has evolved, adapted and become part of its culture.
For example, it has provided pensions and life assurance for more than 40 years,c urrently offering a group personal pension (GPP) plan with enhanced employer contributions, ranging between 7% and 12% of salary. In addition, it offers income protection, employee share ownership, and a flexible benefits scheme, including holiday purchase, car parking and commuter clubs.
The majority of its financial wellbeing benefits have been developed with advice from Broadstone.
A regularly updated staff benefits brochure on the organisation's intranet details the support available, and all new staff are made aware through a formal induction process.
The organisation also carries out internal e-communication campaigns, typically on an alternating monthly basis, supplemented by regular roadshows at each of Curtins’ offices.
The most recent pension roadshow took place in July 2019; these events include group presentations and one-to-one advice sessions.
Rob Melling, chief executive at Curtins, says: “Our financial wellbeing programme offers peace of mind and some security to our people, and it’s something that is welcomed and appreciated across our whole team. Simply, the variety of benefits is also valued highly."
