Transport organisation Stagecoach has won two international awards for its implementation of an employee experience app for around 20,000 bus and rail employees.
The app, provided by Blink, was initially launched in November 2018 to help improve the organisation’s employee engagement. Since then, the app has been rolled out to staff on a depot-by-depot basis, with Stagecoach hosting a launch event at each operating site. The roll out completed in February 2019.
The app is available via mobile for the organisation’s 20,000 drivers and engineers, or as a desktop application for Stagecoach’s 2,000 desk-based staff. It provides access to organisational news and peer communication channels, enables staff feedback and links to training and policy information. Digitising paper reports has further allowed Stagecoach to reduce printing and paper costs.
To date, the app has 91% active users a week, with nine opens per active user. In addition, 96% of the app’s total users are still using the platform four weeks after signing up.
In recognition of this work, Stagecoach has won the Gold Prize in the Social, Collaboration and Communication category at the 2019 Intranet and Digital Workplace Awards, organised by consultancy Step Two, situated in Australia. The win was announced on 12 June 2019, yet the Europe-based awards ceremony has yet to take place.
The organisation has also claimed the Digital Workplace of the Year accolade at the 2019 Digital Workplace Awards, held in Chicago on 17 June 2019, as well as the Award for Enabling the Frontline, which recognised the role of the Blink app in bettering employee engagement within regional business sections and across the organisation as a whole.
Lesley Ashman, director of technology and change at Stagecoach, said: “We’ve worked hard with the Blink team to deliver the platform to thousands of our employees in a relatively short space of time, so we’re really pleased to receive these awards.
“Blink has helped increase the level of employee engagement across the business, and is a valuable internal communications tool that we look forward to using even more comprehensively in the future. We are very proud of our employees across all age groups who made it possible for us to win these awards by embracing new technology and becoming internal communicators via Blink.”
