Supermarket chain Lidl GB has become an age inclusive accredited employer due to its commitment to attract, grow and engage employees over the age of 50.

The accreditation, which was awarded by 55/Redefined, involves the use of the organisation’s R/AGE methodology to look at employers’ approach to age inclusion. It provides a readiness score based on their talent strategy and culture, employee value proposition, ambition to become more age inclusive, and how they recruit and attract over-50s talent. The methodology also looks at how organisations train employees on age awareness and growth, and how those aged over 50 are engaged, consulted and retained.

In order to become accredited, employers must commit to four key actions: ensuring recruitment processes are inclusive and accessible to candidates aged over 50; communicating and promoting vacancies fairly, reviewing HR policies relating to retirement; and investing in technical training and re-skilling for older age groups.

Lidl GB was recognised for its forward-thinking approach to diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI), and its commitment to welcoming over-50s talent in order to attract and retain a multigenerational workforce. It has has outlined a plan to increase support for older staff and grow intergenerational teams with diverse experiences and strengths.
