City of London Corporation has appointed Alison Littlewood as its executive director of HR and chief people officer.
Since joining the corporation in June 2023, Littlewood has overseen the development of its first-ever people strategy, which aims to enable an inclusive, supportive environment where all staff can thrive. It was launched in tandem with its five-year corporate plan back in March, which was designed to focus on its ambition to be a world-class organisation that fully embraces the needs and diversity of the communities it serves.
Littlewood has extensive experience in senior leadership roles in HR and organisational development, having worked in both the private and public sector and in local government in the London boroughs of Haringey, Kingston, Lambeth and Tower Hamlets.
Littlewood said: “The City Corporation is an extraordinary and unique organisation. For 900 years, we have served as custodians of the nation’s trading centre, the beating heart of London. This is the opportunity of a lifetime for us to build together a modern and dynamic organisation with a sustainable future.
“Our people strategy is at the core of this and it will be monitored, reviewed, and refreshed throughout its five-year life cycle. We all contribute to the environment and culture that enables the City Corporation to thrive. The story that we are writing is in our hands and we will shape our future together over the next five years.”
Ian Thomas, town clerk and chief executive at City of London Corporation, added: “I am absolutely delighted by Alison’s appointment. She has really led the charge on our first-ever people strategy, and her can-do will-do attitude and wealth of experience has been a huge asset. Together, our corporate plan and people strategy will enable us to be our brilliant best and become a truly world-class organisation.”
