Organisations located at Chiswick Park marked Earth Day on Friday 22 April with a lunchtime event for the 8,000 employees on site.
The Go Green event included tree-planting activities in line with Chiswick Park Enjoy-Work’s sustainability strategy and Let’s Get Planting initiative.
Employees at the organisations based at Chiswick Park, which include Discovery Communications, OpenBet, PepsiCo, Starbucks, and Virgin Active, among others, had the opportunity to attend workshops focusing on energy saving, biodiversity, waste and recycling.
Staff could also take a turn riding a smoothie bike, which enables riders to make healthy smoothies while cycling. The event coincided with the culmination of a 24-hour charity cycling challenge undertaken by OpenBet employee James Howard, which aimed to raise awareness about alternative methods of transportation.
Resident organisations Discovery and Virgin Active also showcased their sustainability initiatives, such as green gym equipment and meat-free Mondays.
Gareth Bain, head of brand at Chiswick Park Enjoy-Work, said: “The Go Green event is line with the Chiswick Park sustainability strategy in ensuring that we all work together to make the planet better for the next generation. If we all come together and do just a little bit, we will make a big difference. It’s about taking small steps in the right direction.”
Mara Cummings, vice-president, global real estate planning and development at Discovery Communications, added: “The Go Green eco event in Chiswick Park on Earth Day is a chance for everyone to rally behind conservation with simple and achievable actions, big or small that make a real difference.
"We recently introduced meat-free Mondays and water sold in cartons instead of plastic bottles in the staff café and are always looking at new ways that we can protect and nurture the planet for future generations.”
