Exclusive: Just over one in three (35%) UK workers said they have access to choice and flexibility when it comes to employee perks and benefits, according to new research by Perkbox Vivup.

For its report Bridging the gap: creating parity between deskless and office-based workers, the global benefits, engagement and wellbeing platform surveyed 1,000 UK senior level full-time and part-time employees aged 18 and over who work onsite in the manufacturing, retail, transportation and warehousing, hospitality and construction industries.

It found that that many mixed-workforce organisations manage to foster a unified workplace culture, with 71% of respondents reporting a good relationship between deskless and office-based workers, and 73% viewing the overall organisational culture as strong.

More than a quarter do not think businesses are doing enough to create parity between office-based and deskless workers, and 65% reported that deskless workers enjoy greater flexibility than office-based employees. Despite this, 60% said they think that office workers have greater status in the business, while 55% of office-based workers said they receive more recognition for their efforts.

Almost one-third (30%) believe that those who cannot work from home should receive greater workplace benefits, while 20% feel it is unfair that some have the flexibility to work remotely while others do not. One in four admitted they are looking to move jobs for a better benefits package.

Additionally, 85% prioritise job satisfaction and 84% said the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance is key to their satisfaction.

Doug Butler, chief executive officer at Perkbox Vivup, said: “In today’s rapidly evolving work environment, fostering a unified and inclusive organisational culture is more critical than ever before. Our report underscores the importance of ensuring that both deskless and office-based employees feel equally valued and supported.

“By leveraging technology and adopting tailored approaches to meet the diverse needs of our workforce, businesses can bridge gaps and enhance the overall employee experience. This commitment to fairness and flexibility is key to sustaining a strong, cohesive culture across all levels of an organisation.”
