Tesco Ireland is to give pay rise to its employees as part of a €16 million (£13.7 million) investment.
From 1 January 2024, more than 12,000 customer assistants, warehouse operatives and grocery home shopping delivery drivers will receive a minimum 4% increase in their hourly pay.
The irvestment means the retailer’s annual pay award will come into effect three months early, with its employees also set to benefit from an additional earnings increment in the region of around 1%.
Maurice Kelly, people director at Tesco Ireland, said: “As we approach our busiest time of the year, I am pleased to announce our pay award for 2024. This significant investment represents a minimum 4% average increase for all retail and distribution colleagues, and will come into effect from 1 January, three months ahead of our regular annual pay award.
“We’ve continuously invested in benefits for colleagues this year, including paid leave for colleagues experiencing domestic abuse and access to free virtual GP services. We’re also mindful that providing certainty on pay for colleagues, as they budget for the new calendar year, is important to everyone. Our colleagues are at the heart of our business, and we thank them for their continued hard work and dedication to serving our customers and communities.”
Earlier this year, Tesco Ireland, which employs more than 13,000 staff, also introduced a 24/7, 365-day employee assistance programme that includes access to confidential telephone counselling and mental health support, a digital gym and nutrition hub, legal and financial assistance, cancer support, and life and parenting coaching.
It also enhanced its Colleague Clubcard discount scheme, which provides a total annual allowance of €1,500 (£1,287) and a monthly 15% discount event on top of its existing 10% discount on all purchases.
