Standard Life has run a series of financial education sessions for its employees during the summer period in an effort to boost staff understanding of their own benefits and to help them deal with any financial issues.

The sessions, run by the Financial Services Authority, have been taking place weekly, during lunch hours. They cover basic financial issues around loans, mortgages and tax, as well as some information on the Standard Life pension scheme and other benefits that are on offer to staff at the firm.

Alan Gibson, deputy head of the staff association at Standard Life, explained: "The sessions cover basic financial awareness, and also highlighted the benefits package that we have, such as travel cards at a cheap rate."
