Shoosmiths has introduced a mortgage advice plan to help graduates buy their first place and also cut the price of existing contracts.

And the law firm has already seen a rush of enquiries from staff that want to escape bad deals. It launched the scheme last month, which allows employees to get information on the house buying process, discounted conveyancing and removals.

Louise Hadland, HR manager, said: "The mortgage market is so complex these days and people are clearly benefiting from having a little incisive guidance."

She added that the process, run in conjunction with benefits provider People Value, involved setting up staff with financial advisers, who investigated the mortgage market on their behalf and attempted to find staff the best deals.

While she hopes that the deal will help its first time buyers get onto the property ladder, it has been particularly popular with workers looking to change mortgages.

"The advisors have already found eight people [with existing mortgages] something better this week," added Hadland.

Shoosmiths has also recently launched a cut-price car deal. It is offering discounts of between 6% and 9% on a number of different models.

"We had a most fantastic driving day at our offices in Northampton. We've got a huge car parking space there and they [lined up] these fantastic cars outside. All the sexy cars, such as the Mercedes SLK, were fully booked."
