Engineering firm EPM Solutions has transitioned to an employee ownership trust (EOT) as part of a commitment to empower its dedicated workforce.

The decision to transition to an EOT was led by founder Gary Kerr, who decided to step back from his role as managing director and exit the business. It will not affect day-to-day operations, but will introduce the chance for EPM’s workforce to have a greater voice in its strategic direction and potential financial rewards tied to success.

The move is part of EPM’s aim to foster a culture of continued innovation and ensure the business’ long-term future. Director Kevin McGinnigle has been appointed managing director to ensure seamless continuity.

Colm Kerr of McKee Campbell Morrison provided legal advice for the transaction, while Carole Leslie and Alan Watt of Ownership Associates provided employee ownership advice.

Kerr said: “I’m incredibly proud to hand over the reins to our talented team, in doing so, I want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone, past and present; staff, associates, customers and partners, who have all played a massive part in the growth and success of EPM. This transition is an exciting milestone to secure EPM’s future, and I’m confident that our employees will continue to drive forward growth and success.

“Kevin has been with EPM for 20 years and holds a wealth of experience and knowledge. I’d like to thank him for his commitment to EPM and know he will carry his dedication to great service, as he leads the business forward onto its next phase of development. Kevin’s extensive experience and leadership will be invaluable.”

McGinnigle added: “I’m excited to lead EPM into this new era of employee ownership. We have a loyal and talented team in place and the transition positions us for continued service and innovation. I would like to take this opportunity to extend our gratitude and thanks to Gary for his leadership, guidance and dedication to the business. Becoming an EOT is a fantastic opportunity for the team to have a significant influence on how we move forwards as a business. We aim to embrace this change, while continuing to provide the high level of service our customers have come to expect.”
