Facilities management firm Atlas has transitioned to 100% employee ownership via the creation of an employee ownership trust (EOT).
The firm’s previous owners explored several sale options, but eventually chose the EOT model to protect its values, safeguard its independence, and reward those who contributed to its growth and success. By placing full ownership in the hands of its workforce, Atlas is aiming to foster a culture of shared success, accountability and empowerment.
It is intending to ensure the transition aligns with its purpose of creating happiness for both itself as an organisation and its employees, while also enhancing employee engagement and delivering greater stability, innovation, and service excellence.
Chris Wisely, chief executive officer of Atlas, said: “Transitioning to 100% employee ownership is a proud and defining moment for Atlas. This move reflects our purpose of creating happiness for ourselves and others by giving every employee a real stake in our success. It strengthens our culture, drives innovation, and deepens our commitment to delivering exceptional service for our clients. We’re thrilled to lead the way in our industry.
“This decision ensures that we continue to prioritise our people-first approach to facilities management. All of us at Atlas are excited to begin this new chapter, demonstrating how full employee ownership can drive business growth, enhance employee wellbeing, and deliver even greater value for our clients all across the UK.”
Atlas offers its employees an employee benefits programme that aims to financially support staff while helping them to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This includes access to high street discounts, online training, home workouts and mindfulness classes, a year-round recognition programme for employee achievements, an end-of-year celebration called Stars of Atlas, a wellbeing magazine focused on supporting personal and family life, an employee app that provides wellbeing support, financial benefits, and supermarket and holiday discounts, and flexible working if an employee fosters a child.
