Something for the weekend: American actor, filmmaker and playwrite Tyler Perry (pictured) has proven that the perks of being on his staff do not stop after handing in your notice, with an extravagant birthday gift of multiple designer handbags sent to an ex-employee.
Actress Crystal Hayslett worked as a costume designer under Perry and then went on to be his personal stylist for a time, before making the move to acting with her famous boss' support, becoming best known for her role on his show Sistas.
Hayslett updated her Instagram story on 18 October with an image of a table covered with what seems to be more than 20 designer handbags, from brands including Louis Vuitton and Balenciaga.
Hayslett added the caption: "It was the surprise delivery from [Tyler Perry] for [me]!!! Love you so much! You being here last night meant the world!! These bags were the cherry on top!"
The birthday gift sparked envy across the social media platform, with many commenters bemoaning their own work perks - or lack thereof - in comparison.
However, on a more positive note, it also gave rise to reports confirming Perry's generosity as an employer. Actress Taraji P Henson reported in 2019 that Perry was the first person in the industry to pay her a fair wage, while earlier this year Perry himself spoke on social media about giving back to employees of his studios with not only a lavish Juneteenth party, but a yearly payroll amounting to $154 million (£48.5 million) in order to compensate them fairly.
Here at Employee Benefits, we can definitely see why so many are clamouring to get on Perry's payroll! This is a great example of an employer giving back to their staff, motivating and rewarding hard work, not to mention maintaining positive relationships once they have gone on to find even more success elsewhere.
It turns out, it's not just in the box office that Tyler Perry is a hit!
