Music collective management organisation PRS for Music has been recognised as a living wage employer by the Living Wage Foundation.
The employer, which is headquartered in London and has more than 500 employees, has committed to paying every PRS for Music employee a minimum hourly wage of £13.15 , which is the real living wage rate for those based in the capital. This is higher than the current government minimum wage for workers over the age of 21, which is £11.44.
The Living Wage Foundation calculates the rate based on what individuals need to make ends meet. It offers a voluntary benchmark for employers that want to ensure their staff earn a wage that meets everyday costs and pressures.
According to PRS, the accreditation demonstrates its commitment to paying its workforce a wage that meets the costs of living, rather than the UK government national minimum and national living wage rates.
It not only reflects the success of its high-performing team, where the values of inclusion, intrapreneurship and collaboration are embraced, but also highlights its part in tackling in-work and post-work poverty, to ensure wages reflect the real cost of living.
Suzanne Hughes, chief people and transformation officer at PRS for Music, said: “We are on a journey to foster a positive workplace culture and being recognised as a living wage employer demonstrates our dedication for a better world of work for our team. Empowering the PRS team, prioritising their wellbeing and their development, creates an environment for success.
“Employees who feel they are fairly compensated are less likely to experience financial stress which supports improved overall performance, both for the individual and the organisation.”
Earlier this year, the organisation was named a top employer by the Top Employer Institute and was recognised as a disability confident employer by the Department of Work and Pensions in 2023.
