Michelle Nash - Aldermore

At Aldermore, our core purpose is to back people and businesses to do more. This is reflected in the savings accounts, mortgage range and business finance options we offer to customers, but also continues through to how we treat our colleagues.

Charitable giving is important to our workforce, and so we strongly believe in maximising the benefits of payroll giving for our employees. As a business, we have a deep commitment to corporate social responsibility, and offering payroll giving, or give as you earn, to colleagues means they can donate to causes close to their heart in the most simple and efficient way possible.

Payroll giving allows employees to give directly from their salary to any charity of their choice. It is one of the most tax-effective ways to donate to charity, because the donation is taken from the salary before tax is deducted. There is little administration involved, and the contributions can be set up to go out each month.

Here at Aldermore, we use an intuitive benefits platform that allows our colleagues to opt in to a variety of flexible benefits, with payroll giving being one of them. I would encourage other employers looking to make the most of payroll giving with their employees to do similar, because having such an accessible platform means the option to give is so easy. We also make sure the benefit is widely promoted to employees, with regular articles in our internal newsletters and on our intranet. This is especially significant during those times people are more likely to think about giving, such as over the Christmas period, or during the annual pay and bonus process.

We also have a fantastic rewards team at Aldermore that work hard to make all of this happen across the business, ensuring all of our colleagues and the charities that we work with, are best placed to benefit.
