The Building and Allied Trades Joint Industrial Council (BATJIC), managed by the Federation of Master Builders (FMB), has agreed to a one-year pay deal over the next year for builders.
The deal, which was also agreed with trade union Unite, includes a 4% wage rate increase, one extra day of holiday, and a 4% increase for daily fares and lodging allowances in line with January’s Consumer Prices Index.
The adult general operative rate has risen to £12.05 per hour and £469.95 a week, while the NVQ3 advanced craft rate increases to £15.70 per hour and £612.30 a week. This is based on a standard rate of wages for a 39 hours working week.
The BATJIC's holiday entitlement is now 23 days, plus all bank holidays. Under BATJIC Working Rule Agreement Four, seven of these days are attached to the Christmas holiday period and need to be taken alongside the three public holidays. For those based in Scotland, the Christmas holiday period consists of four public holidays and six annual leave days.
The agreement came into effect on Monday 17 June and will last until Sunday 15 June 2025.
Brian Berry, chief executive of the FMB, said: “This year’s agreement represents a fair rise in the wage rates for the nation’s small builders, following another year of inflated prices. We believe this has struck the right balance between employers and staff, who are both seeing their costs rise. BATJIC, in agreement with Unite, also agreed to provide builders with one extra holiday day.
“While the BATJIC agreement is completely voluntary, we know many FMB members choose to use it for guidance on their wage rates and other employment rights. The agreement helps builders attract new staff and maintain their current workforce by guiding employers to offer competitive wages and a range of other employment benefits.”
