Supermarket chain Aldi is rewarding its 35,000 front-line employees with a 10% bonus to recognise their efforts dealing with the increasing demand for products during the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.
The 10% bonus will be paid to all permanent and temporary staff that have worked on the front-line in Aldi stores, which will be paid in December 2020.This is the second recognition bonus Aldi has paid its employees during the Coronavirus pandemic, with the first one being paid in March at the start of the crisis.
At Aldi, front-line store assistants at Aldi currently earn a minimum hourly rate of £9.40, and £10.90 in London, which increases to £10.41 after three years, and £11.15 in London, surpassing the national minimum legal requirement that organisations have to pay staff, currently standing at £8.72 for employees over the age of 25.
Aldi follows supermarket chains Tesco and Sainsbury's that have also announced special bonus payments to their employees this year.
Giles Hurley, chief executive officer at Aldi, said: “This year has been a difficult one for so many and our employees have worked tirelessly to ensure the nation continues to have access to high-quality affordable food. This bonus is a gesture of our appreciation for our amazing Aldi staff who have shown incredible resilience and dedication throughout the year.”
