EXCLUSIVE: Norton Rose Fulbright has hosted a wellbeing event as the first phase of a holistic health and wellbeing strategy.
The event, which was held on 7 and 8 November to coincide with National Stress Awareness Day on 6 November, included a healthcare benefits fair and a range of seminars for staff to attend.
Vicky Rose, rewards, pensions and mobility manager at the international law firm, said: “We called in providers that we were already using and asked them if they would like to participate in such an event to raise awareness of the benefits we have, particularly the ones linked to the wellbeing side of things.”
The health and wellbeing event included Roodlane Medical, Norton Rose Fulbright’s occupational health and private doctor service provider, which offered employees cholesterol and blood pressure tests, and provided handouts and general advice.
The law firm’s local gyms, Fitness First and 37 Degrees, talked to staff about how they could become members, while wellbeing organisation EnergiseYou offered onsite massages, and Cyclescheme brought in bikes to promote the health benefits of the bikes-for-work scheme.
Employees could also attend seminars, which were run by Roodlane Medical, on topics such as sleep, personal resilience and staying healthy during the winter months.
Norton Rose Fulbright also arranged for fruit baskets to be delivered to each floor of its office building.
The event was communicated at the beginning of November. Rose adds: “We didn’t want to do it too long in advance because [staff] would forget about it, but on the other hand we wanted to make sure they made plans to attend things.
”Our marketing team prepared documentation, and we linked it into National Stress Awareness Day.”
The law firm intends to run the event at least annually, and is looking at aligning it with other key health events and days across the year.
Rose says: “We are trying to tie it in so that it highlights the benefits to the employee and also, on the wider picture, we’ll be looking at absences and [taking a] more strategic look at what we need to do to reduce sickness and make sure we have a high-energy workplace.
“It is about starting to look at a wider strategy and getting all our health providers together so that we have that joined-up approach [to healthcare].”
