Care home organisation Radfield Home Care York, Thirsk and Ryedale has signed the age-friendly employer pledge in order to help its older workers flourish in the workplace.
Launched by the Centre for Ageing Better, the pledge is intended to improve the recruitment, retention and development of older workers, and tackle ageism in the workplace.
As part of the commitment, Radfield Home Care will identify a senior sponsor for age-inclusion, ensure age is specifically named within its equality, diversity and inclusion policies, create an age-friendly culture, hire age-positively, be flexible about all types of working, encourage career development at all ages and ensure everyone has the health support they need.
Radfield Home Care York, Thirsk and Ryedale will commit to take action in at least one area every year to improve the way it recruits, manages and supports older workers, and will report back on this annually.
Ed Gill, owner of Radfield Home Care York, Thirsk and Ryedale, said: “Here at Radfield, we have always proudly employed a diverse workforce of all ages from 20 to over-65. We firmly believe varied age groups all bring their own experiences, perspectives and approaches to the organisation that help us deliver outstanding care for our elderly clients.
“A number of our older care professionals have joined us following personal experience of care, perhaps supported a relative or loved one in their own time and developing a recognition for the important work care workers undertake. This often means they bring with them warmth and knowledge from their experiences.”
