Something for the weekend: For many people, winning a brand new car from their company would be one way to end a pretty rubbish year on a high. But for one Wisconsin-based worker, her reward turned into a powerful act of peer-to-peer recognition.

Haley Bridges, staffer at Chick-fil-A restaurant in Appleton, Wisconsin, was considered one lucky employee when she recently won the keys to a brand new Hyundai at the annual prize-giving finale of the restaurant’s recent festive party.

But rather than bag the prize herself, Bridges was the epitome of how best to demonstrate kindness to colleagues when she decided to immediately gift the car to her co-worker, Hokule'a Taniguchi, instead.

After watching her battle cycling to work in the freezing cold, wind and snow, Bridges (who already owned a car), thought someone else could make much better use of her winning.

Chick-fil-A has called Bridges a ‘hero’, and here at Employee Benefits, we couldn’t agree more, with Taniguchi benefiting from the sort of peer recognition that - like it claims about its food - is the best you'll find.
