Mercer has signed an agreement to use Staffcare employee benefits software to support its flexible benefits and total rewards administration business, replacing an existing deal with Vebnet.

Tony Morgan, head of client management for Mercer's UK benefits outsourcing business, said: "We had previously signed a framework agreement with Vebnet, but we never signed any clients up. Around the time we finalised the agreement, we recognised the market was starting to shift, and we needed software that would support our existing clients, both now and in the future."

Mercer chose Staffcare after carrying out a market review. "We have a complex, sophisticated existing book of flexible benefits business with specific bespoke design," said Morgan. "We are committed to being market-leading in terms of thought leadership and innovation, and needed a platform that could cope with that approach."

Staffcare will replace Mercer's current flexible benefits platform, and will be made available to its existing clients across Europe immediately. Mercer hopes the move will enable both employers and employees to see improvements in their systems' look and feel, with greater flexibility and faster implementation times.

Jonathan Mindell, UK and European leader for Mercer's outsourcing business, said the software "will integrate with other Mercer technology to make the concept of a benefits portal a reality".

Vebnet declined to comment on the move.
