Asda runs an employee recognition scheme that rewards staff for great customer service and when the organisationās goals have been met.
The scheme, Asda Stars, operates in 660 locations and is available to 177,000 employees.
So far, 68,856 employees have received awards, with 41,828 recognised as āuniqueā employees for making exceptional efforts.
An employee builds up Star points by meeting particular goals, and can then redeem them on a variety of rewards.
Jane Earnshaw, head of reward and recognition at Asda, says: āWe are trying to reward people and recognise people who uphold the organisationās core beliefs. The most popular reward is the Asda gift card, which makes the recognition personal.ā
Each store, distribution centre and head office also nominate a ācolleague of the monthā, who is awarded Star points.

āA thank-you should have some kudos behind it,ā says Earnshaw. āRather than adding an extra Ā£10 to someoneās pay, with no event or communication and no real meaning as to why or how they got that, we think it is important to create an event out of thanking our employees.
āThere is no silver bullet to long-term motivation; it is a combination of pay, work environment, learning and development opportunities and many other factors.ā
While in your Livingston shop I witnessed a class of 5 year old children getting served by Nicki {badge name] this lady made every one of the children feel great . As a member of your staff she was fantastic. This is the second time this young woman has been a star. the first was helping a handicapped person. a truly nice person
At Grantham, Lincolnshire store today a lovely woman named Jenna served us at the checkout. She really was a lovely lady and made our day that much better and left the store smiling talking about how nice she was š just wanted to say. Thanks
Thanks so much for the blog article.Much thanks again. Fantastic.
I am writing to say how thankful myself and Christopher Bramell are for the fantastic support of Lorraine Ambrose at Walton, Liverpool store.
Chris had just won the Liverpool heat of Official Mr England/Mr World contest and decided as one of the events he wanted to do to raise funds for Beauty With a Purpose ( Miss Eng/Miss World charity supporting UK childrenās charities) was a fashion show. Not a typical fashion show but one that would boost peoples self esteem and give them an opportunity they not normally have.
Chris decided the children & teens section would be children whoād had cancer ,the menās section, amputees and the ladies wear parents or carers of the children & amputees.
He approached Lorraine re Asda supplying the clothing. We were amazed at Lorraineās instant eager willingness to help. She was so welcoming, friendly, to the models when they arrived for fittings and made each and everyone of them feel special. She has such a natural ability to relate to people of all ages, abled & disabled. Nothing was too much for her. On the night of the show she helped both front & back of stage and her jovial/caring attitude made the models, who were very nervous, feel relaxed and believe they could model.
The night was a success thanks to Lorraineās /Asdaās support & her lovely way of relating to people.
Pleased to be able to tell you Chris WON Mr England (see Miss England web site )
