Adobe, Hilton, Intuit, and Salesforce are among the organisations that have been recognised on 2017’s Best Places to Work in Australia list, compiled by Great Place to Work.
The annual study, which is in its 10th year, primarily ranks organisations using an anonymous employee survey. Employees are asked to provide feedback on the workplace behaviours that help to create a trusting workplace environment, as well as comment on how credibility, respect and fairness are expressed at work, and the levels of pride and camaraderie in the workplace. The lists are also based on a culture audit management survey, which analyses organisations’ values systems, programmes and practices in order to understand an organisation’s workplace culture.
For 2017, 60,956 employees across 150 organisations took part in the anonymous employee survey.
Manufacturing organisation Mars Industries topped the 2017 list for organisations with over 1,000 employees, followed by retail business Mecca Brands and hospitality organisation Hilton. For the 2017 list that recognised employers with between 100 and 999 employees, healthcare organisation Stryker ranked the highest, with IT organisations Salesforce and Atlassian coming in second and third, respectively. Avenue Dental was ranked first in 2017’s list for organisations with under 100 employees, followed by IT businesses Canva.
Other organisations to feature across 2017’s lists include professional services business Nova Group, construction organisation Summit Homes Group, manufacturing firm SC Johnson and Son, and hospitality group Marriott Hotels and Resorts Australia.

“To be recognised, once again, as one of the best places to work in Australia is an honour, and a reflection of the incredibly talented team we have here at Salesforce, along with the effort we put into cultivating our culture every single day.”
Zrinka Lovrencic, managing director at Great Place to Work Australia, said: “Being a great workplace is no longer seen as ‘nice to have’; today it is imperative to business vitality and success.
“Having a culture of trust benefits the organisation at every level; employees are more innovative, creative, loyal, demonstrate respect, and genuinely care about each other and the [organisation]. Leaders at these [organisations] know that what is good for the workplace is also good for business, and that being a great workplace and having great employees leads to increased client retention, customer satisfaction, and in turn a healthier bottom line.”
