Something for the weekend: The Royal Household is currently sowing the seeds for someone looking to take on a budding new career as a permanent gardens manager, to care for the grounds admired by thousands at Buckingham Palace.
With a starting salary of £38,000 to £40,000 per annum, the successful candidate will work 39 hours from Monday to Sunday and be responsible for the maintenance and presentation of the Buckingham Palace Gardens and its surrounding areas to an exceptional standard.
As well as being in charge of leading a dedicated team, the gardens manager will use their skills and expertise to carry out lawn maintenance, caring for shrub, herbaceous and rose borders, and deliver projects to conserve and enhance the gardens’ rich biodiversity.
The Royal Household is looking for someone who is an expert in horticulture management, holds a relevant horticulture qualification, is equipped to use garden machinery such as rotary machines and large mowers, and is also able to drive a lorry with a clean UK driving license.

The job advert stated: “You’ll have significant experience managing a team and will be keen to use your knowledge to develop others and introduce apprenticeship and training opportunities. Working closely with colleagues will be important to you, and you'll have an adaptable communication style and a collaborative approach to work.
“You’ll have previous experience delivering maintenance for a high-quality landscape garden through others, ideally within a historic environment. This means you have excellent knowledge of lawn maintenance, and cultivating a broad range of trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants.”
