Port of London Authority has launched specialist cancer support as an employee benefit for its 460 employees.

The authority is responsible for the UK’s largest port and works to protect and improve the 95 miles of the tidal Thames.

Through a partnership with specialist cancer support services provider Reframe Cancer, its workforce will be able to access comprehensive cancer support through a variety of services to meet the individual needs of patients and their loved ones.

These include expert advice and support through a dedicated cancer nurse specialist, such as information, guidance, and emotional support throughout their experience with the disease, and a cancer support manager to help with chasing appointments and transportation to these, as well as return to work planning.

They will also be able to access a range of online resources and informative materials on cancer awareness and preventative measures.

This support is part of a commitment to offer cancer support in light of growing concern among working age people about its impact on employees and the workplace. The authority decided to implement the service as it understands the value and importance of looking after the health of its employees.

Karen Fuller, director of human resources at the Port of London Authority, said: “Any cancer diagnosis is disorientating, emotional and stressful, which is why we are pleased to offer all our employees at the authority expert support through Reframe Cancer, and not just for our staff, but also for a chosen family member or friend. Reframe helps people at every stage, from prevention and diagnosis to life after cancer, and we are thankful for the support they offer.”

Port of London Authority also offers its employees a bikes-for-work scheme, car leasing, a health cash plan, eyecare vouchers, gym discounts, blood pressure checks and an occupational health service.
