GE Healthcare has been awarded the UK’s Royal Society of Public Health’s Health promotion and community wellbeing award 2012 for its employee health and wellness programme.
GE has offered the programme, HealthAhead, to its 300,000 employees worldwide since 2010. It is available to GE Healthcare’s 46,000 employees.
The programme covers issues such as education and prevention, nutrition, physical activity, tobacco cessation and stress management.
From May 2012, 200,000 GE employees have had access to free or reduced-cost fitness centres, and about 30,000 have participated in GE-provided lifestyle programmes. All GE sites globally have been tobacco-free since November 2011.
Bettina Fitt, general manager, UK, GE Healthcare, said: “We are delighted with this award, because it underscores both GE Healthcare’s commitment to caring for employees and their wellbeing, and the role that employers must play in helping combat the rise of chronic disease and lifestyle-related illnesses.”
