EXCLUSIVE: GE Healthcare employees have taken part in a festive-themed five-kilometre charity fun run as part of its HealthAhead programme.
The programme, which aims to promote healthy living for all employees, focuses on issues such as nutrition, physical activity, smoking cessation and stress management.
The 70 fun-run participants, dressed in costumes ranging from one of Santa’s reindeer to a giant Christmas pudding, raised more than £500 for the organisation’s four locally supported charities.
Becki Adams, personal assistant to the general manager at GE Healthcare and organiser of the event, said: “I wanted to organise a HealthAhead event that would appeal to a wide audience and encourage people to not only get active, but to have fun in the process.
“Five kilometres is a manageable distance, especially as we had walkers as well, and we were able to raise money for our local charities by charging a registration fee. Donations were also made by some members of staff who were unable to participate.
“It really was a great success and enjoyed by all who participated. There were certainly some funny looks from passing motorists as human reindeer and Christmas puddings ran along the pavement. Due to its popularity, we’ve decided this will now be an annual event.”
