Truro-based landscape architect firm Mei Loci Landscape Architects has permanently moved to a four day-working week, without any reduction in pay for its staff.
The firm’s 10 employees have all moved to a four-day, 32-hour working week.
Mei Loci Landscape Architects has also been accredited as a Gold Standard four-day week employer, under the 4 Day Week Foundation’s Employer Accreditation Scheme. This officially recognises permanent four-day week employers in the UK.
The 4 Day Week Foundation has accredited more than 250 UK employers that have permanently adopted a reduced hours four-day week with no loss of pay for employees. The majority have reduced their working hours for employees to 32 hours a week or less.
Mike Hawes, director of Mei Loci, said: “It is exciting to be able to formalise the four-day week. We have been trialling this approach for six months and have been able to demonstrate that we can work efficiently, ensuring that we can still be responsive to clients, cover the five week days and address project requirements while maintaining a healthy balance between the demands of the workplace and our own wellbeing.”
Joe Ryle, campaign director of the 4 Day Week Foundation, added: “Congratulations to Mei Loci for becoming a four-day week employer. With 50% more free time, moving to a four-day week gives workers the freedom to be able to live a happier and better life. Implementation can be a win-win for both workers and employers. The 9-5, five day working week was invented 100 years ago and no longer suits the realities of modern life. We are long overdue an update.”
