Something for the weekend: Some people dream of relocating to another country, with some upping sticks to explore a new job opportunity. If you’ve ever wondered what the most popular country to relocate to is, then career and resume website Jobseeker has calculated this for you.
It analysed social trend data to depict the movement of talent across 30 key countries and used the template ‘jobs in [country name]’ to charter the flow of residents’ search trends across places people most commonly want to work. The tracked countries were chosen due to their strong job market and high gross domestic product (GDP).
Canada was most frequently selected for relocation for job seekers in Costa Rica, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, South Africa, Saudi Arabia and UAE. This is due to its pro-immigration stance through the Express Entry scheme, its strong economy, healthcare system and diverse culture.
Australia is the next most frequently chosen country to relocate for work by individuals in Denmark, Indonesia and the United Kingdom. Switzerland and the United States were each selected six times, while the UK came top among job seekers in Australia and the USA.
The top 10 most popular countries that employees want to relocate to, with the number of times featured as a top country job search outside of their home country, are:
- Canada (8)
- Australia (7)
- Switzerland (6)
- United States (6)
- Singapore (2)
- Denmark (2)
- Saudi Arabia (2)
- United Kingdom (2)

David Overmars, career and resume expert at Jobseeker, said: “Job seekers often move away from their hometown to a location where their skillset is highly valued. Despite the concept of asynchronous or remote working being more commonplace in people’s professional lives, job seekers are still moving to find new roles. Location remains an essential factor, both in embracing a specific sector such as technology or healthcare and establishing a healthy work-life balance. In the coming years, we’re expecting to see more people considering relocation to other countries when making their next career move.”
Looks like Canada is the place to go for a strong job market and work-life balance!
