Retailer Central Co-op has launched an electric vehicle salary sacrifice scheme as part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability.
Through the scheme, which is provided by Octopus Electric Vehicles, Central Co-op's company car drivers and car allowance recipients can select a brand-new electric car with no upfront costs. The scheme also includes insurance, maintenance, road tax, MOT, AA breakdown cover and a free home charger.
Eligible employees can participate by sacrificing a portion of their gross pay and will be able to save up to 40% on monthly costs.
To support the scheme rollout, Central Co-op and Octopus Electric Vehicles will host webinars that offer an introduction to salary sacrifice car arrangements, discussions on the affordability of electric vehicles and test drive events.
Jennifer Roberts, senior reward and wellbeing manager at Central Co-op, said, “We are delighted to be able to offer this benefit and expand our green fleet, which supports our sustainability goals as a society. Our society drivers have also expressed their desire to be able to opt for green vehicle options where possible, and the benefit gives them a wide range of options to suit their needs, while also helping the society to make a difference.”
Central Co-op’s continued investment in sustainable practices and employee wellbeing has also seen the introduction of a free virtual GP service and the installation of solar panels across all locations. Last November, it introduced a financial support benefit across its support centre, food and funeral operations teams so staff can access a range of tools, services and resources to support their mental health, money and the rising cost of living.
