Investment bank and financial services business Citigroup, law firm TLT and North East London NHS Foundation Trust have been named as some of the top flexible and family-friendly UK employers for 2024.
For the 15th consecutive year, charity Working Families has compiled a list of the top flexible and family-friendly UK employers from the public, private and third sectors. Employers were assessed using Working Families’ benchmark and were scored on four areas such as integration to organisational strategy, culture and how flexible and family-friendly working practices have become embedded; the creation, development and deployment of flexible and family-friendly working policies and their take-up; consistent practice; and evidence and statistics of the effects of flexible and family-friendly working on the organisation.
Organisations taking part in this year’s benchmark survey were also scored if they go above and beyond the Carer’s Leave Act, with 62% offering paid carer’s leave and 45% offering five days of paid leave.
This year’s Top 10 Employers for Working Families, in alphabetical order, are:
- Audit Wales
- Citigroup
- Crown Prosecution Service
- DAC Beachcroft
- Grant Thornton
- Hill Dickinson
- Independent Living Fund Scotland
- Mishcon de Reya
- North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT)
- Pinsent Masons
TLT was recognised for its initiatives aimed at creating an inclusive working environment, underpinned by a robust programme to support working parents. These have included a flexible approach to working, family leave support and later-in-life-programmes.
Helen Hodgkinson, chief people office at TLT, added: “People are at the heart of what we do. So, ensuring we’re meeting the needs and requirements of those people throughout their working life is paramount to our success. TLT is a passionate supporter and advocate of helping all of our people balance home and work commitments, recognising family support is not exclusive to women. Our inclusion in this year’s list is a confirmation that TLT is a top player when it comes to supporting working parents.”
Jane van Zyl, chief executive officer of Working Families, said: “It’s inspiring to see the remarkable progress of our benchmark employers, securing their place at the forefront of flexible and family-friendly workplaces. Leading from the front, 85% are starting with job design and proactively analysing roles for flexible-working options prior to advertising, in our view, an approach that holds the key to making flex a success. In addition, the near-universal encouragement for managers to work flexibly themselves further underscores a commitment to creating work environments that are for everyone.”
