Cardiff University will auto-enrol staff who are not currently pension scheme members into one of two existing pension schemes or the national employment savings trust (Nest) when it reaches its staging date on 1 April 2013.
The majority of the university’s 6,000-strong workforce are already members of a pension scheme so will be unaffected by auto-enrolment.
However, 700 employees are not enrolled into one of Cardiff University’s pension schemes. They will be enrolled into either the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) or the Cardiff University Pension Fund (CUPF) or reminded that they have the right to join one of the schemes.
Casual staff, external examiners and student demonstrators who fulfill eligibility criteria will be auto-enrolled into Nest.
The organisation plans to contact employees eligible for auto-enrolment closer to its staging date to offer further information and explain how they can go about opting out of the scheme.
Employee Benefits approached Cardiff University, but it declined to comment.
