Transport for London (TFL) will recognise employees who volunteered to work during the industrial action on 5 and 6 February with a £25 high street gift voucher.
The vouchers are part of TFL’s recognition scheme through which managers can nominate employees who have gone above and beyond their normal duties. They will be awarded to hundreds of staff who helped to keep tube stations open during the strike action.
The vouchers can be redeemed in high street retailers, such as Currys or Marks and Spencer.
Phil Hufton, chief operating officer of the London Underground, said: “Hundreds of our staff volunteered to help keep London moving during the recent pointless industrial action called by the union leaderships.
“In recognition of doing this over and above their day jobs, staff who volunteered will receive a voucher for £25 by way of a thank you.”
Manuel Cortes, union general secretary at the Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association, added: “This is yet another example of [Mayor of London] Boris [Johnson’s] gesture politics.”
