Target rewards 200,000 employees with $2 permanent pay rise

US retailer Target has given 350,000 front-line employees a $200 (£155) bonus to thank them for their continuous hard work during the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.

Hourly-paid team members in stores and distribution centres, including seasonal hires, as well as employees who work within Target's guest and team member contact centres, will all receive the bonus payment.

This is not the first time that the organisation has rewarded its employees during the pandemic. In April, the organisation gave 20,000 store team leads, who manage in-store departments, a $250-$1,500 bonus (£193-£1,157). In July, all full-time and part-time hourly-paid employees in stores and distribution centres received $200, while store directors, executive team leader and salaried distribution centre leaders received a performance-related bonus.

These bonus payments are part of the organisation's commitment to invest $1 billion in its employees in 2020. This also includes a pay rise of raising $2 (£1.55) for 20,000 employees, increasing their hourly rate from $13 (£10) to $15 (£12).

Melissa Kremer, chief HR officer at Target, said: “In a year like no other, I’m proud of what this team has accomplished and grateful for the care and connection they’ve provided our guests and communities. Target’s success this year is a direct result of our team members turning our purpose into action and meeting our guests’ changing needs day after day.”
