Taking holiday from work can drive up employees' stress levels, with more than half working extra hours in the run up to their annual leave.

Among owner managers, one in seven (14%) said they could work an extra 16 or more hours - the equivalent of about two working days - just before a holiday. According to the Summer stretch research from Investors in People, 51% of staff report working extra hours in the run up to taking holiday.

Only 51% said that they don't think about work when they are on holiday, while nearly one-in-10 (9%) of workers claim to feel guilty about leaving colleagues.
