Scottish Power has run a series of drop-in financial education seminars to help employees handle their money better and understand the finance-related benefits on offer from the company.

The employer arranged for 22 on-site education sessions, each lasting 45 minutes, to take place during June and July at its main UK sites.

The sessions were provided by the Financial Services Authority, and covered topics such as mortgages, pensions and insurance.

Sheena Cowan, pensions trustee secretary at Scottish Power, said: "The information was all quite basic stuff about pensions, mortgages and insurance. It wasn't too heavy on pensions, but we did highlight the company scheme and directed staff to the dedicated pension team for more details."

A DVD of the presentation was also produced and sent to line managers, who were encouraged to play it during team meetings.
