Staff at Santander have taken part in the Brighton Bike Ride to raise money for its charity partner, the British Heart Foundation.
The ride, which took place at the end of June, raised over £30,000 for the British Heart Foundation, with 70 Santander employees taking part and the bank matching donations 100%.
The bike ride is part of a three-year partnership to support the charity, and the bank’s extensive community programme, which includes fundraising, volunteering and payroll giving.
Abi Veasey, senior community relations manager at Santander, said: “The strategy of our charity sponsorship has traditionally been focused on local partnerships but we wanted to build on that and incorporate a flagship national sponsorship to reflect the growth of the business and the rebrand of all the banks.”
Staff got involved in the fundraising after an internal communications campaign. Veasey added: “A really broad range of staff took part. It was a really good opportunity to bring together all areas of the business in one place.”
This autumn, 30 Santander employees are to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. Veasey added: “We will be doing a lot more over the next three years.”
