The Royal Mail Group has been awarded the Guinness World Record title for most registered charities supported through a payroll-giving scheme.

Approximately 42,000 employees give to charity directly through their payroll, with £45 million raised over the last 23 years for 975 charities. Over £2 million was raised in 2011 alone.

Charities include: Help the Hospices, Barnardo’s, County Air Ambulance Trust, Macmillan Cancer Support, and Royal Mail Group’s own charity, the Rowland Hill.

Moya Greene, chief executive officer at the Royal Mail Group, said: “It is a tremendous honour for our employees to receive this award from Guinness World Records.

“Our postmen and women play a vital and trusted role in every community across the UK. I am delighted that they have been recognised as the world’s best for donating to charity direct from their pay.”
