Motorway and trunk road service operator Roadchef, which employs more than 3,300 staff in the UK across 30 locations, has launched a new flexible income benefit for the 600 employees based at its Chester, Clacket Lane and Northampton operating sites.
The Get Paid As You Go platform, provided by Wagestream, was implemented on 18 March 2019. The benefit aims to empower staff to better cope with unexpected expenses, such as parking fines or boiler replacements, without resorting to overdrafts, credit or high-interest payday loans.
The benefit enables employees to access and withdraw 30% of their earned income throughout the course of the month, rather than having to wait for a single monthly payday.
Mark Fox, chief executive officer at Roadchef, said: “We truly believe it is our team that makes the brand at Roadchef, so it is key for us to be able to provide our employees with any support they need, be that financial or otherwise.
“We’re really looking forward to entering into a partnership with Wagestream and hope that by alleviating some of the stress a monthly pay cycle can induce, we’ll be able to offer all of our employees, longstanding or new, a rewarding career with Roadchef.”
The Get Paid As You Go platform was communicated to employees using letters, posters, leaflets, how-to guides and merchandise, such as keyrings and notepads. On-site training and demonstrations on how to use the benefit were also provided, while managers participated in training webinars.
The flexible income benefit will operate alongside financial education, as well as Roadchef’s existing benefits offering, which includes discounts that help staff save money on everyday purchases.
Laura Bunn, director of HR and development at Roadchef, added: “We are proud to be partnering with Wagestream to support our employees. We truly believe that our business is made up of incredible people and we are constantly looking at ways to fully support them.
“This is one of a number of initiatives within our ongoing people plan to support engagement and retention within the business.”
