Dockyard babcock pay deal

Waterside manufacturing and repair organisation Babcock is to award 700 employees based at Rosyth dockyard a pay deal, including a pay increase of up to 9.2%.

The pay deal, negotiated with trade union Unite, will see Babcock’s Rosyth dockyard employees receive a pay rise of £2,000, as well as a £1,000 lump sum payment. This has been delivered to employees as a £1,750 pay rise, plus the lump sum, effective from 1 April 2018, and a further £250 pay increase will occur from 1 October 2018.

This equates to a percentage pay increase of between 7.2% and 9.2%.

A spokesperson at Babcock said: “We have continued to work closely with our trade union colleagues during these pay negotiations and are pleased that together we have reached a positive conclusion.”

Bob Macgregor, regional officer at Unite, added: “The deal was struck following intense but constructive negotiations with management. It’s a win-win deal putting extra money in the [employees’] pockets, which will help them and their families keep up with rising prices.

“There is also an agreement for the [organisation], unions and employees to work together to introduce agreed changes that ensure Rosyth is fit for the future.

“This first-class deal shows what can be achieved on behalf of the workforce when they are part of a well-organised and professional union.”
